![]() On the other hand, I do feel “ grinding” has fallen out of favour in extending gameplay, and rightfully so. After all, the goal is to solve all the puzzles in one hour. On one hand, I understand that puzzles that eat up a bit of time are valid tools for increasing the difficulty of the room. I’m personally torn on these kind of puzzles. There is also one puzzle that took us a fair amount of time to solve–not because we didn’t realize how to solve it, but because solving it just required us to spend some time on it. For a couple of them, I found myself asking, “But why would Thing X exist in Place Y?” Or “Why would I do Action Z at this time?” Some parts of the room did break the immersion for me. I can’t say it enough: a room that actually makes you feel like you’re working to achieve your goal, rather than just going back and forth solving puzzles, is the best kind of escape room there is. ![]() It’s very deftly done.īeyond that cool feeling of uncovering the story behind the scenes, the puzzles all fit the theme and were logical. I’ve got to say, this is the only room in Toronto that we’ve played so far that actually tells a narrative with characters. Things unravel as you play the room, and you actually come to learn a fairly detailed story with a shocking twist at the end. The most impressive part, though, is that the room tells a narrative, not just adhere to a theme. As mentioned, it shows off some cool technologically advanced puzzles. Room 057 wins points for taking an old theme (oh no: trapped inside a lab!) and making it new (oh no: not everything is all that it seems!). You can find more info about how we rate these rooms here. Which was good, because we actually haven’t played that one, either. We’ve been told it’s loosely a continuation of one of their other rooms, Contaminated Hospital, but no previous knowledge is needed before playing. It’s creepy but not scary, and it’s one of their most technologically advanced rooms, heralding the new era of escape rooms by utilizing some cool effects. Room 057 is Trapped!’s newest escape room, currently only available in their Markham location.
